The Gastronomy of Marriage: A Memoir of Food and Love
I got very lucky a couple of weeks ago - I was at a party for my boyfriend’s mom and my boyfriend’s cousin showed up with a pile of books written by his friend Michelle, which he was handing out. Having just finished a book that morning, I was ready for a new book to read. One look at the book Greg was passing around and I knew I had found it. The words “memoir,” “food” and “love” were all I needed to see; I knew this book would be right up my alley.
It took me about one chapter to fall in love with The Gastronomy of Marriage. It’s basically about what Michelle makes for dinner. It’s also about marriage and compromise and family and gender roles and all sorts of other things, but I really just loved reading out her figuring out what to cook each night. She is one of those amazing people that can make an entire meal out of whatever she has lying around the house. So inspiring.
This book reminded me a lot of Julie and Julia, which I loved, but it’s a little less funny and a little more sweet. If you like books that make you hungry, I think you’ll like this one as much as I did.
P.S. Michelle, you can invite me to one of your dinner parties any time!
