What to read when you are expecting
Ever since I saw the two lines on the pregnancy test strip I have put aside The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley and have replaced it with pregnancy books. Yes I have delved into the world of What to expect When You Are Expecting. This book has been a great source of information and has answered many of my first time mother questions. It’s almost like a For Dummies book. Each month has each own chapter. There are suggestions for how to cope with morning sickness, what foods you should eat and what ones you should avoid. It tells you detail by detail all the changes your body and the baby are going through. After reading each chapter I feel better knowing that what I have been feeling is “normal” and that I’m not the only pregnant woman who cries during commercials with puppies.
Another book I have found extremely useful these past few months is Baby Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields. This book gives customer reviews on baby products and rates the products by highest quality to lowest quality. I have brought this book with me on many shopping trips when looking for cribs, strollers, car seats etc. I felt comfortable buying items after reading this book knowing that it was rated safe and was approved by other parents such as myself.
My husband has been enjoying So You’re Going to be a Dad by Peter Downey. It shows pregnancy from a man’s point of view. My husband has been reading it out loud to me and I must admit it is extremely funny and shows pregnancy in a whole new light. It explains the areas that What to Expect leaves out.
As I get closer to my due date i’m sure these books will be even more of a guide for me. I’ve been purposely avoiding the labor and delivery chapter.
