Animals Up Close: Zoom in on the World’s Most Incredible Creatures
If you’re interested in seeing some of the world’s smallest creatures ultra-magnified, this book is for you. There are a few too many insects for my taste, but at least dust mites were thoughtfully excluded (and of course I skipped all spider pages.) While my favorite subjects include the axolotl, the giant prickly phasmid, and the Gouldian finch, the dragon-headed cricket of Borneo tops my list of the most memorable life form featured. Animals Up Close provides numerous interesting facts, spectacular photos, and a great opportunity for learning about metamorphosis, the use of camouflage in nature, and how anatomical structures can adapt to specific environments.
