America’s Presidents: Facts, Photos, and Memorabilia from the Nation’s Chief Executives
I picked this one up while touring the fascinating FDR Presidential Library & Museum back in January and was inspired to read it cover to cover after spending a lovely afternoon at the Washington’s Headquarters Museum in Morristown, New Jersey. I had been thinking for quite some time that I should really work on learning more about our country’s presidents, but had not been eager to sit down with a dry scholarly tome dedicated to each one. (Ian, I’m expecting you to blog about Rutherford B. Hayes!)
This book is definitely the answer if you’d rather enjoy whirlwind introductions, random anecdotes, fun trivia, political cartoons, and reproductions of handwritten documents including The Gettysburg Address and JFK’s Cuban Missile Crisis doodles. And now in an effort to make my reviews a little more interactive: Can you guess which one spoke Dutch as his first language? Who never married? Which president was a professional tailor? I know you’re out there…so go ahead and comment!
