The Stone HouseI have read this book numerous times in the course of my life. It’s just one of those books that you throw into a box during the multiple times you move from apartment to apartment. I call it a comfort book. I know the ending but still enjoy reading it over and over again. Laura Brannan is the heroine whose life I live through vicariously. She is a successful lawyer who drops everything in her life to help her sister’s country inn business. She drives from Ohio to North Carolina only to find her sister has disappeared dropping the inn business into Laura’s lap. I dream of running an inn or bed and breakfast. The setting is described beautifully in this book and takes you right to the postcard harbor town of Beaufort. I can just smell the salt air and feel the ocean breeze on my face. This book has a little bit of everything for everyone. It has romance, suspense, mystery, and humor. Laura is determined to solve her sister’s disappearance while running a business and falling in love with two men at the same time. The suspense and intrigue keep you going to the end and Laura never lets me down as a strong, independent female character with a sassy personality and a great sense of humor.
