Monster
As the prices of gas and food continue rise, the number of new books that I buy has gone down. One place I go to fill that need to buy something new is to community book sales. My local library has a book sale twice a year. A few weeks ago I spent an enjoyable hour at my local library’s fiction book sale. They had books donated by patrons along with older library stock. Some of the genres I looked at included Mystery, Thriller, Crime, Romance, Science fiction, Horror, Religion and Classics. They were priced at $1.00 for the hardcover and trade paperbacks. Mass market books were 50 cents.
Among the books I picked up was, Monster. It was written by one of my favorite authors, Frank Perreti. It was published in 2005. I never got around to reading it. Now is my chance.
It is the story of a married couple, Reed and Beck Shelton, who go on a wilderness hike. They become aware of being followed. During the night Beck is carried off by a huge creature. Reed gets help from some people from a small town and a few friends. As he and others search for her, they too are being hunted by something faster and more relentless and not human.
I look forward to finding out the what happened.
Give your library a call to see when they are having a booksale. It’s a good
opportunity to find books that were bestsellers in the past. Also, books that I didn’t get because of the price a few years ago, are now affordable at a $1. And if you have books at home that you no longer want, you can ask if or when they accept donations. The books you no longer want could be the next summer reading for someone else.
