Let’s take a moment to discuss the essentials of the beach read:
- Must be good, old fashioned Mass Market or Trade Paperback (unless you like your Kindle or Sony sandy, or encased in plastic - I suggest leaving your e-reader at home)
- Must “feel good” in your hands. Saying I’m fond of the way a trade paper cover feels in your hands doesn’t even begin to cover it. PLUS - the rough cut pages of this book thrilled me in ways I can’t even describe. (I’ve just revealed my inner book-geek - I know)
- Must consist of brief, fun filled, easily-digestible chapters — hopefully with enough lure to keep you turning pages in between games of paddle ball, sand castle construction, or wave jumping
- Must contain just enough brain candy to not be completely good for you
In the spirit of Beach Read Rules - 101 - Nora Roberts’ latest release: Vision in White does not disappoint.
So toss it in your beach bag, grab your sunscreen, and follow Mac (Macenzie) — a gifted wedding photographer who (gasp) doesn’t believe in her own Happily Ever After (HEA for you romance junkies).
Mac and her buddies own a wedding business called “Vows” - a picturesque setting to say I Do in any season. She stumbles upon (more to the point into) the guy who pined for her back in high school – now a nerdy-but-in-a-perfect-kind-of-bookish-way high school English teacher, Carter McGuire.
All typical wonderful Nora Roberts style wooing ensue in a fun, fast, romantic read that will leave you properly in perfect HEA bliss, anticipating the next three books in the new Bride Quartet Series. (Don’t get any ideas! this is not Nora writing paranormal about vampires, or pagan stones. She’s back to wooing her strictly romance audience with this series.)
Nora has the perfect recipe for enticing her readers: Smart, savvy leading ladies. Gawkishly handsome, intelligent leading men. Interesting story lines in gorgeous settings. Just enough drama to keep us interested. All in all, worth the price of admission!
And, while my fellow reviewers are following literary lore, I”ll be waiting for the decadent follow up treat, Bed of Roses, in October.

Beach Reads is a topic that comes up so often with publishers. Even Harlequin has a “Beach reads” section on their site - as they determine which titles on their list would be the best for beach reading.
