Historical Graphic Novels
Books are a great way to expand your mind and help you escape to another world or time, but children don’t seem to have that same view. When I was working at a public library in a small town in New Jersey called Roxbury, getting children interested in reading was sometimes a problem.
There was one collection of books that children continuously took out - it wasn’t what you would think - graphic novels about historical events. Beautiful pictures about times in history with easy-to-understand writing that helped to make history fun to learn. We all know one of the toughest classes in school is history, with all the different names and dates to learn; these books help make it a bit easier and fun for children. There are some historical graphic novels from a variety of publishers that can help spark children’s interest in real history and reading in general. These books are available in the usual places - your local library, the internet, and book stores, and before you to get them, feel free to check out Fiction Connection and LibraryThing.com to read reviews and recommendations on these and many other books. Don’t forget to comment on my blog and express your feelings about what I have written because nothings better than sharing ideas of your own with people.

That’s great to hear! I used to catalog tons of historical graphic novels when I worked for a distributor, and I always wondered about their popularity with kids. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for that information! I really didn’t know about these books and I will look for them in the future for some information that’s fun when studying American History. It really can be overwhelming for young students today!
